Bob Marley & The Wailers - Lively Up Yourself (Vivada remix)

A new remix by me. Inspired by Soulwax's awesome retro remixes, I started this remix several months ago after playing the original many, many times to my wife late at night (or not so late) when she was starting to pike on me. I say inspired by Soulwax but I hold no delusions of it being anywhere near as good as their remixes, that may take many years I'm afraid. However, it's not one of those cheap and nasty retro remixes that pollute the blogosphere (i.e. original track with a fresh drum track and maybe some chopping of vocals thrown in), everything is fresh besides the vocals of course and the wicked sax solo which I've glitched up a bit. Anyway, that's enough dancing about architecture from me...

Kids at the Bar

A while back, I posted Kids at the Bar's remix of Sleepyhead. Since then I've discovered that these dudes have other awesome remixes. Seriously. Massive, crazy basslines, thumpin' drums and some awesome vocal chopping is what they're all about. Hopefully they deliver some original stuff soon, I shall keep my ears peeled.

Silverchair back in the studio!

As evidenced by the following mysterious youtube clip, Silverchair, the greatest band in the universe are back in the studio recording album #6. Excitement.

M83 Remix White Lies

White LiesWhite Lies
M83 are one of my favourite remix artists, they produce either massive, beautiful epics or bangin' dance-inducing remixes. Battery in Your Leg just got a hold of this new remix of White Lies, Nothing to Give. It's one of those beautiful epics I was talking about. It's very good too, get it while you can. I highly recommend M83's original works too, top notch dream-pop. I may post some more M83 remixes soon, so stay tuned.

Through The Golden Filter...

Those familiar with The Golden Filter will know that they are a wee bit mysterious, that's cool.. I like to think of myself as a wee bit mysterious myself. We do know however that they are full of awesome... disco-synth type awesome. They name their inspirations as Film, Photography, Tarot Cards, Australia, Nature, Thrift Store finds, Animals, Disco, Love, Desperation, Trees, Folk Music, New York City, Old Vinyl. Notice the Australia reference in there? Penelope, the lead singer, grew up in Byron Bay, New South Wales, one of the coolest places on Earth. The first time I saw actual, real-life boobies was in Byron Bay. Need I say anymore about it? No. Back to TGF then... All of the songs they've done include the exact same arpeggio preset, which is kind of uncreative, well maybe not 'uncreative' but... I don't know. Don't get me wrong, it's all good. It gives them an instantly recognisable sound, the moment you hear that arp you know it's a TGF track and that's a brilliant way to create buzz. I applaud them for it really, clever marketing ploy. That all sounds really negative but give 'em a listen... it really is irresistible. Anyway, here's some tunes:

Empire of the Sun - We Are the People (The Golden Filter remix)
Cut Copy - Far Away (The Golden Filter remix)

Stream Byrnesy Live!

David Byrne has released a new live EP recorded on his current tour. It's called Everything That Happens Will Happen on This Tour, nifty little title there. Three of the tracks are from last year's phenomenal album, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today and another track from 1981's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. All proceeds from the release will go to Amnesty International and it's only 4 bucks so go buy it now. They also provided this little widget thingy to stream and purchase the EP.

EDIT: Removed widget because of annoying autoplay! Grrr.

And if you don't already have it, here's another widgety thing to download One Fine Day from the afore mentioned album.

And finally, here's a little tune I wrote inspired by the album. You can download it via the little downward-facing arrow on the widget. I really fucking love that album... just in case I didn't make it clear enough already.

Grafton Primary

I saw Grafton Primary at the East Brunswick club last week and they were seriously good. I was really impressed with the massive sound they produced with just synths and drums. The lead singer dude had a crazy two-tone mullet which made things even better. So apart from dropping a full glass of beer, I had a great time. Cheers Grafton Primary.

Vivada Lives

I'm still alive... but only just. I've been busy moving to Melbourne with my wife and dog. Awesome, hey? Well I think so at least. I've also been working on a whole bunch of remixes; these three were done for competitions which I either did not win or I missed the deadline for. Fuck deadlines! They suck balls. Hmm... not much else to say about 'em really, except they kick some serious arse! Well, maybe not but either way, have yourself a bit of a download and a listen and tell me how awesome I am (or otherwise).

Dukes of Windsor - Runaway (Vivada remix)
Emmon - Lips on Fire (Vivada remix)

Peaches Gets a Soulwax

Peaches' new album I Feel Cream will be released on May 4th and the first single is called Talk to Me. The single was produced by Soulwax which makes it seriously awesome. Other guest producers on the album include Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and Drums of Death... holy shit! Stop by her website to download (in mov format!) a mini-documentary about Peaches. Good stuff.

Peaches - Talk to Me

Passion Pit

Passion Pit are from Massachusetts, USA. It's been a while since a new yankee band caught my ear. Their debut album, Manners will be released on May 18 and I'm eagerly anticipating it. I reckon it has to be awesome after listening to the Chunk of Change EP an absolute arseload of times over the past few weeks. I'd say that if there was a Family Feud-type survey thing regarding Passion Pit's sound, the highest paying answer would have to be dreamy (followed closely by spacey.) Fans of Van She would totally dig this.

Both of the remixes are from artists I'd never heard of before but are fully top-notch in every way. The Knock are from Colchester, UK and are name after a song from UNKLE's first album. Kids at the Bar are from Oklahoma City and have done a bunch of other remixes which I must check out. Anyway...
